Look, I know you probably do not see much of a point in getting dressed these days, but trust me, it makes all the difference in your day! I know we are only moving from room to room, and those rooms usually only include bedroom-kitchen-living room-kitchen-bedroom. To make things worse, it does not help that people and media outlets are tripping over themselves to get us the latest updates and it is overwhelming, especially when the updates are of extended lockdowns, rising cases and deaths. It is not a coincidence that the influx of news is beginning to affect our moods and the way we look.
Switching to sweatpants was the highlight of our day pre-COVID-19 after a long work day, but now I think we are all kind of over it. If we are lounging in gray sweatpants, ragged tees and slippers constantly, then we start feeling how we look, a soft slouchy mess. Think about it, we are styling our daily lives based off the movie characters who have hit rock bottom.
Rock Bottom Movie Character Symptoms:
- Eating poorly and excessive
- Drinking more
- Decreased engagement (social, mental, physical and emotional)
- Reduced positivity
- Increased irritation aka extremely moody
Hey Guys *youtuber voice* we cannot remain here or we will eventually get stuck in our sweatpants hot mess.
Getting dressed is an instant mood booster! It is like eating a banana or soaking up the sun, which have both been proven to enhance your mood. I am a true believer in if you look good, you feel good and you do good. Once we decide to get dressed, we are signaling our brain that we are preparing to do something, a sense of purpose. With this new sense of purpose, we are subconsciously raising our mood, optimism, motivation and productivity. Just as we set the mood with music, we do the same by getting dressed. Do you want to feel like Doja Cat’s “Say So” or a sad Drake song? By simply getting dressed, you are setting the tone for the day.
Motivation to Getting Dressed:
- Have theme days
- Share your WFH (Work from Home) Outfits of the Day
- Try outfits/style you would not normally wear
- Upcycle- Tie Dye anyone?
- How many ways can you style a piece, i.e. your sweatpants
- Participate in Social Media’s fashion challenges
The most important tip is to get fully dressed. There has been a lot of business on top and comfy on bottom or nothing on bottom for Zoom calls. Do not be that person, get dressed from head to toe with accessories. Remember if you look good, you feel good, then you do good. You will be more attentive, engaged and productive throughout your call. Also, while you are playing dress up in your closet you may come out of this with an organized closet and a for sure personal style. Get those keep, toss and donate piles ready!
So, please stop cutting your bangs and just get dressed.
