For July’s Trolley Night, we hosted Landscape Possibilities, a collaborative exhibition featuring the work of Susan Maakestad and Antzee Magruder. This show reimagined the idea of a landscape, expanding the horizon of what that word can mean across medium and material.
Susan Maakestad shared a collection of framed watercolor landscapes. Her pieces offered soft, abstract views - quiet and thoughtful, with layered color and shape that suggested familiar places without spelling them out.
Antzee Magruder took a different approach, creating abstract landscapes out of fiber on canvas. Her work was bold and textured, using fabric to build dimension. She also included a few handmade clothing pieces that connected back to her visual style.
Together, Susan and Antzee asked viewers to consider: what defines a landscape? Landscape Possibilities offered no final answer, only a layered, evolving visual conversation between two artists who see the world in distinct but harmonious ways.
The artwork is available to purchase through our online store under “Made in Memphis” as well as in-store through August 24th.
The evening was also sponsored by author L.K. Aldrich, who joined us for a special book signing of his latest novel, Out of the Mist. His presence added another creative layer to the night, blending visual art and literary storytelling in one shared space.
The night was full of curiosity, conversation and appreciation for the many ways art can reshape familiar themes. Thank you to everyone who came out to support the artists and engage with their work. If you missed it, check out our instagram for a peek into the show.
