Bethany Reid Goodman
Bethany Reid Goodman was born in Chicago and raised in Memphis, TN. As a self-taught artist and photographer Bethany has developed her own distinctive style that is both bold and emotive, aiming to capture the feeling of a moment and how it changes us. Her pieces often explore themes of nature, spirituality, and human emotion - inviting viewers to reflect on their own experiences and see the world with a new sense of wonder.
The full-sized framed prints as well as unframed 8x10" prints are available for purchase throughout the month of August.
We asked Bethany a couple questions about her work:
How did you get your start making art?
Some of my earliest memories are of my mom teaching me about art and us coloring together. I always wanted to be an artist like her. When I was 13, I snuck my dad's nice camera out one afternoon and had the absolute best time taking photos. I swore from that day that I would be a photographer, and I haven't looked back since!
What inspires you to create?
My inspiration is typically derived from feeling. Art comes from the soul for me, so I try to tune into my surroundings and capture the emotions around me, even if it is my own. I love connection - be that between people together, or people with the earth, or how I am relating to my surroundings. You'll come to see that there are stories all around you if you pay attention.
What do you want people to take away from your artwork?
The biggest things I want people to take away from my art is to be inspired to see the world, to get in touch with nature, and to see their current surroundings with a new lens. Experiencing life outside of our comfort zones changes us for the better. Nature heals. New environments spark inspiration. There is magic everywhere if you pay attention, and I want to help others experience that!
We had the pleasure of giving Bethany her first solo photography show! Keep up with her on Instagram and bethanyreidvisuals.com to see all of her future endeavors.
